AI Comic-Drama Series Episode #3: Guide to Storyboard Design

Your Upgrade from “Character Creator” to “Visual Director”

Your AI character has been born, but how do you make their story “leap off the page” and become a visual sequence with breath and rhythm? The true magic of creation lies in storyboard design.

FROM THIS TO…

We ditch complex theories and provide only a universal storyboard template and a 4-step filling method, building a solid bridge for you from zero to storyboard design in 10 minutes.

Step 1: Knowing Your “Toolbox”
  • Camera Movement – “How does the camera move?”
  • Static Shot: Stationary. Suitable for calm, observational beginnings or endings.
  • Push In: Moves towards the subject. Used to emphasize details, intensify emotion.
  • Tracking Shot: Follows a character/object’s movement. Enhances dynamism and immersion.
  • ….
  • Shot Size – “How wide is the frame?”
  • Extreme Close-Up: Only a small part (e.g., eye, hand). Conveys intense emotion or crucial detail.
  • Close-Up: Shoulders and above. Focuses on expression or important small actions.
  • Wide Shot: Full body. Establishes the scene, shows posture and space.
  • ….
  • Angle – “From what viewpoint?”
  • Eye-Level: Parallel to eyes. Most natural, gives the audience a sense of immersion.
  • Low Angle: Looking up. Makes the subject seem powerful, imposing.
  • …..
  • Scene Content – “The Core: What is happening?”

Filling Formula: Subject + Action in Progress + Environment/Lighting Detail

  • Mood / Atmosphere – “How does this frame feel?”
  • Summarize with 1-3 most precise words. E.g., Peaceful, Tense, Joyful, Mysterious, Lonely…

Step 2: Conceive the “What to Draw” Blueprint

Before filling the sheet, use this minimalist template to define your direction in 1 minute:

  1. One-Sentence Story: A ________ (character) is ________ (core action) in ________ (setting).
  2. Core Emotional Flow: Starts with ________, goes through ________, and ends up feeling ________.
⚠️ Filling Tips:
  • Define Start and End First: Determine Frame 1 (how to start) and the last frame (how to end).
  • Fill the Middle Next: Think about how to “transition” from start to end, and fill the middle frames.
  • Check Verbs: Ensure every frame’s “Scene Content” has an action in progress.

Step 3: Final Check

After filling, quickly ask yourself Four Questions:

  1. Is it moving? → Does every “Scene Content” cell have an action verb?
  1. Is there variety? → Do the “Camera Move” and “Shot Size” avoid being completely repetitive?
  2. Is it understandable? → Just by looking at the sheet, can you connect it into a simple story in your mind?
  1. Does it feel right? → Does the “Mood” column form an emotional arc?

🎨 Complete Filled-Out Example:
  1. One-Sentence Story: A young woman is carefully handling and packing freshly harvested tomatoes at a table by the field.
  2. Core Emotional Flow: Starts with serene accomplishment, goes through focused appreciation, and ends up feeling peaceful fulfillment.

The universal template has been delivered, the 4-step method has been taught.

Now, the only missing piece is your story. Start filling it out, Director.
